:|: Adopt A Family :|:
On Saturday 12/21/02 I was in East Los Angeles to represent 2WheeLife and help out with the Adopt-a-family program. It was based out of the Cathedral of my lady of Angels off the 101 freeway and Grand exit. This is my second year doing this and every year it makes me feel that much better. We show up and help load boxes of food and presents that are given to families in need. If your not loading then your delivering. I was able to deliver to two families this year and the reaction was over whelming.
The first family we showed up and knocked on the door. It was a woman and her daughter staying in a single room apartment. We walked in with 2 big boxes of presents and 4 small boxes of food. The woman was so grateful and kept thanking us. After putting the boxes down she wished us a Merry Christmas and walked us to the door. I then turned around and said, "oh, we have three more boxes of presents for you." She then started to cry.
On the second delivery we were greeted by young children waiting at the top of the stairwell all yelling "Which apartment! Which apartment!". When we yelled back "12!" one of them started jumping up and down and shouting "That's me!! That's me!! Here Ill show you!!" He then led us down the hallway where I noticed a community bathroom and a community kitchen. When we got to apartment 12 there was one bed and one dresser in a room about the size of a small office. This room held a father and his two sons. I later learned that the complex used to be an office building converted into housing.
I'm not wealthy and I don't have everything I want...but today I am proud and honored for what I do have.
